Lower blepharoplasty

At HouseMD Plastics, we offer lower blepharoplasty (ble-fuh-ro-plas-tee), a procedure aimed at rejuvenating the under-eye area. This eye bag surgery is designed to improve the look of under-eye bags, dark circles, sagging skin, and facial hollows, enhancing your overall facial appearance. Our approach is careful and patient-focused, aiming to deliver results that not only enhance your appearance but also boost your confidence.

What is a LOwer bLepharoplasty?

Lower blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure that effectively addresses concerns like under-eye bags and hollows. Performed under general anesthesia, it involves adjusting the fat and skin in the lower eyelid area to achieve a smoother, more youthful appearance. The procedure's length varies based on each patient's specific needs. Following the surgery, patients can expect some temporary swelling and bruising, which typically diminishes over the following weeks, revealing the final outcome.

How is a lower blepharoplasty performed?

During lower blepharoplasty, typically performed under general anesthesia or under local with oral sedation, involves precise incisions made discreetly on the inner surface of the eyelid to eliminate visible scarring.

  • Transconjunctival Approach: This minimally invasive technique involves accessing the lower eyelid internally, leaving no external scars. It's ideal for patients with moderate under-eye bags and minimal excess skin.
  • Fat Repositioning Technique: A cornerstone of our approach, fat repositioning involves redistributing the existing fat to create a smooth, natural contour, effectively addressing the hollows and bulges under the eyes.
  • Skin Pinch and Undereye Laser: For patients with additional concerns about skin texture and quality, we offer complementary procedures such as skin pinch techniques and CO2 laser treatments to enhance the overall results and tighten the undereye skin.

Fat repositioning: What is it, and why is it important?

Our approach to lower blepharoplasty at HouseMD Plastics is distinguished by our use of fat repositioning techniques. This modern method involves shifting the existing fat to fill in hollow areas and smooth out transitions between the lower eyelid and the cheek. This technique not only addresses the puffiness associated with eye bags but also enhances the overall contour of the under-eye region, leading to a more youthful and rested appearance.

Dr. House is skilled in techniques like fat repositioning, which provides a more natural look compared to traditional methods. Our goal is to offer results that not only look natural immediately after the surgery but also age well over time.

What is the expected recovery?

Every patient is different, and every surgeon manages postoperative care differently. Recovery from upper blepharoplasty is generally quick. Most patients can resume normal activities within a week, with full results visible as swelling subsides over a few weeks.

Some points to consider during your recovery:

  • Bandage Removal: 7 days
  • Suture Removal: 7 days
  • Return to Work: 10 days in person, many work from home after a few days
  • 75% Recovery: 3 weeks
  • 100% Recovery: 3 months
  • Ice compresses may be useful if you see bruifor the first 48 hours
  • Some oozing from the incisions is normal for the first 48 hours
  • If there is excessive bleeding, discoloration, swelling or sudden or severe pain, call your surgeon

REvision LOWER Blepharoplasty

In the realm of revision lower blepharoplasty, the procedure often sought after prior surgical experiences, expertise is paramount. A notable portion of our practice, approximately 20%, is dedicated to revision surgery, highlighting the demand for corrective solutions in this field.

Our approach to revision lower blepharoplasty is characterized by meticulous care and a deep understanding of the unique needs of each patient. It may be ectropion or lower lid retraction requiring canthoplasty, or that lower lid fat has pseudohernated again due to lack of repositioning. We recognize that no two cases are the same, and as such, we customize our approach to address the specific concerns of each individual.

For those who have undergone previous surgeries and seek further refinement or correction, HouseMD Plastics offers specialized revision lower blepharoplasty. Our team works closely with each patient to understand their concerns and tailor a solution that meets their specific needs.
